Biography
Wubbo de Jong (1946–2002) was one of the Netherlands’ most important postwar photojournalists. He began his career at the daily newspaper Trouw in 1965 and, from 1974 until his passing, worked for Het Parool.
De Jong documented political upheaval across the globe, including Poland under siege in 1981, transitions in Eastern Europe, and humanitarian crises in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan, Rwanda, and Zambia. His work is collected in the posthumously published book Amsterdam and the Rest of the World (2002).
He received the Zilveren Camera in 1990 and was named Dutch Photojournalist of the Year in 1991. His archive also includes portraits of artists, musicians, politicians, and other notable and everyday figures, reflecting his enduring interest in both global events and human stories.
