Inside the World Press Photo 70th Anniversary Print Sale
Why now?
In 2025, World Press Photo turned 70. To mark this milestone, we have organized several activities throughout the year, including a 70-year anniversary exhibition, educational programs and videos, a publication, and now, a print sale. The collection tells the story of World Press Photo at 70 – from historic and widely recognized works, to more recent and diverse perspectives from both our annual contest and our most esteemed educational program, the Joop Swart Masterclass.
We also believe that these prints would make special holiday gifts, hence we decided to launch the sale in November.
Why a print sale?
As an independent nonprofit organization, we generate our own income to fund our programs and continue our work. Therefore, alongside the sale being an activity to mark World Press Photo at 70, it is also a way of directly supporting our mission to safeguard and protect photojournalism worldwide. The profits of the sale are split 50-50 between World Press Photo and the photographers or their estate. By purchasing a print, you are helping ensure that photojournalists and documentary photographers continue to tell the stories that matter for years to come.
Where is the money going?
The profits from this sale will be shared equally between the photographers (or their estates or beneficiaries) and World Press Photo. We will use our share of the revenue to sustain our ongoing work championing and protecting photojournalism worldwide, amplifying diverse voices, and ensuring important stories continue to reach global audiences.
Purchase and Delivery Details
Prints and Frames
You will receive a museum-quality photo print measuring 20 x 30 cm, either in landscape or portrait orientation (actual image size may vary as all images are printed uncropped).
You will also receive a certificate of authenticity signed by Joumana El Zein Khoury, Executive Director of World Press Photo.
Each printed image is presented in the original aspect ratio without any cropping, with a 1 cm border (or more depending on the photograph’s dimensions), allowing for easier framing.
All color photographs are printed on Fuji Crystal DP II Matte.
This premium Fuji photo paper is a leading choice for gallery prints. It has an extremely wide color gamut, and is guaranteed non-fading for at least 75 years. Printing on Fuji Crystal DP II Matte involves exposing the paper to a digital laser in a controlled, dark environment, activating the paper’s silver halide crystals before chemical development to create the final print.
All black and white photographs are printed on Ilford B/W Paper Matte.
This panchromatic black and white paper from the iconic Ilford brand is highly sensitive and enriched with optical brighteners, allowing white tones to shine while the great range of black hues creates enchanting depths. Images are converted into photographic negatives, which are exposed onto the light-sensitive paper using a laser. The exposed paper is then developed chemically in a darkroom to produce a traditional silver gelatin print, resulting in a permanent, archival image with rich blacks and clear highlights.
Solid Wood Frame With Passe-Partout
If you would like to purchase a frame to accompany your photograph, we have three classic, solid wooden options available: Black Oak, Natural Oak, and White Maple.
All frames also include a natural white passe-partout made from the finest, non-acidic, fade-resistant museum card stock, guaranteed to be free of wooden fibres. These mounts are produced with a bevelled edge and then set flush against the photograph.
Light and shatterproof Glossy Acrylic Glass covers each print for safe shipping and an aesthetic result.
Your frame will be ready-to-hang thanks to pre-mounted, metallic hanging elements integrated into the frame.
Outside dimensions: 39,7 x 29,7 cm.
All frames are handmade in Germany
