Biography
David Guttenfelder is a New York Times visual journalist based in Minneapolis.
He has spent more than 30 years as a photojournalist based in Japan, India, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kenya and his native USA covering world events. In 2011, he helped open a bureau in Pyongyang for the Associated Press, the first western news agency to have an office in North Korea. In 2014, he was named a National Geographic Society Explorer.
Guttenfelder has served as a member of the 2014 World Press Photo jury. His work has been recognized with eight World Press Photo Awards and has been a nine-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The International Center for Photography has honored him with the Infinity Prize for Photojournalism. He has been recognized by the Overseas Press Club of America. Pictures of the Year International and the National Press Photographer Association have named him Photojournalist of the Year.
